The State Library was buzzing on Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday 6 September, with eager book lovers and the sound of our staff choir as people browsed the pop-up bookstall.

We are very happy to announce that the total amount raised from the Great Book Swap and Busking for Change events is $1700.

A big thank you to all those people who visited the Library and swapped a book for a gold coin or note or donated to our choir.

All the books were kindly donated by staff and volunteers of the State Library and our fellow Adelaide cultural institutions. We had a great response to our call out and offer our sincere thanks for their kind donations and support.

The choir performed Words make the world go around written especially for the occasion by Josh Pyke, Justine Clarke and Deborah Cheetham.

Access to books in remote communities is challenging, as there are often no libraries or bookstores. The efforts of all those involved on the day will actively help the Indigenous Literacy Foundation gift new, culturally relevant books to children in remote Communities across the country.
