Computer Usage Clauses

A booking time-limit applies for most State Library computers:

• Computers may be booked for up to 2 hours
• There is no limit to search State Library catalogue computers.

All customers using State Library computers must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy for Library Customers (“the Acceptable Use Policy”) at all times.

State Library computers are not to be used for:

• games
• downloading music or software
• accessing obscene, offensive or defamatory material (contrary to regulation 6 of the Libraries Regulations 2013 – see below); or
• any other use prohibited by the Acceptable Use Policy

As set out in the Acceptable Use Policy, access to the internet via a State Library computer by children under the age of 18 is the responsibility of the child's parent or guardian. The State Library accepts no responsibility or liability for a child’s use of State Library Computers.

State Library computers do not allow access to the Hard Drive.

For security reasons, State Library computers are automatically wiped of all data when a user logs off. Any files saved locally on the computers will not be recoverable.

State Library computer software applications are provided on the assumption that customers know how to use them. Information Desk staff are unable to provide more than basic assistance to customers using software applications.

Customers must not tamper with computer security or change established settings.

Offensive of obscene material 

Regulation 6 of the Libraries Regulations 2013 states that:

A person must not use a computer that is the property of the Board and is situated on library premises -

(a) to transmit any material that is defamatory, obscene or offensive; or

(b) to knowingly access obscene material.
